Squirrel App Reviews

51 Customer Reviews:

I have to say that I have tested many apps including those "highly priced" ones; However this is the only app that I settled on. It is simple, straight-forward, yet very powerful, dependable and has a beautiful interface. In my opinion; this is one of the best apps, not only among the business/finance category, but even allover the apple store. I am very pleased with squirrel, thanks for the developer.

Im an accountant (but dont hold that against me). Almost three years ago, after my escape from the Windows world, I searched and researched every available OS X finance app. Every app that I tried, some of them quite well designed, failed to meet my exacting, and yet surprisingly simple, requirements. Those requirements included: - Effective forecasting - Autofill - Import functions - Speed - Ease of use - No bloatware! - And, lastly, a beautiful UI that fully exploited the OS X environment. Of all the apps I tried, only Squirrel met those requirements. And, as an added bonus, it even threw in a few cool features that I wasnt expecting. If youre looking for a solid, simple, easy-to-use finance app that doesnt try to be all things to all people, give Squirrel a try. As I said earlier, Squirrel rocks.

I use squirrel since close to the beginning of it (2008) because I saw in a magazine that it won a price of best budget app for students(If my memory is not wrong), and so far Im really happy with it. Also customer support is good.

Difficult to use, confusing and no support documentation available or how to/getting started help. Waste of my $25. I wouldnt pay $3 even for the iPhone app. I have asked for a refund, Im that dissapointed with myself for spending my money on this application.

I have been using Squirrel for 2 years. I had become dissatisfied with an old version of Quicken for Mac. There certainly were (and are) many simple low cost (even free) financial apps for Mac. I downloaded and tried most of the significant ones available at that time and since then. My bank was just getting into on-line banking and Squirrel was the one that worked immediately “out-of-the-box”. The interface was good, the support was there (whenever I emailed a reply was quickly received), the price was reasonable and Squirrel did its job well. Its development has been slow and steady, not making any grandiose claims. I don’t have heavy duty financial needs and recommend it from that point of view. Thanks to the developer for his work and a good product. RJSmac30

Id like a simple, basic account manager. This sounded like it fit, but unfortunately its a little too basic. The only supported form of credit is credit cards. I need something that can also support a mortgage and a line of credit. Fortunately, I bought it during the Two Dollar Tuesday sale, so I only wasted $1.99.

I have been using this app for several months now and it fits all my needs to manage a household budget. I manage one bank account (includes checking and savings), cash, two credit cards, and several friend accounts. The accounts were incredibly easy to set up. Scheduling recurring transactions and setting budgets was also done in no time. Budgets can be used to keep track of recurring monthly expenses, such as groceries, and can also keep track of savings, such as saving for a new car. Reports and budgets are simple to use yet offer useful information. They get even more informative as time goes on. Since starting using Squirrel I have been much more involved in managing my money and it has made me more aware of where my money is going. The app is very well designed with beautiful graphics. The interface is simple and at no point did I feel overwhelmed with information, features, or options. The app hasn’t reached 1.0 and the development has been slow. The app is however very stable and has never crashed for me, nor have I ever seen any bugs. The app works as advertised very well. I recommend this app to anyone that wants to manage a household budget.

同期ができない!

iPhoneと同期ができない!なぜ?????

voxbright v0.8.10 · 14 years ago

Squirrel has been showing problems with the iCloud sync and the developer does nothing but blam apple iCloud for them. There is only one developer and he seems to not be putting much effort on the software. It may even cease to be developed. It has been a beta version for years. I think it is safer to use iBank or Moneywell because they are developed by companies that have structure and put more effort than Axel Peju, whose main job is not developing Squirrel.

I have installed Squirrel both on Mac and iPhone. Everything was working great (when I got used to the application that is not very intuitive) until the first problems with the sync option. The mobile application stopped synchronizing. One more issue - there is no option on mobile side to force sync - there was no way to refresh the database with the cloud copy. The only way to resync was to remove the database from the mobile app entirely and establishing the sync once more. And the same again and again every day. Today I have decided to stop using it - I was trying to resync, and wanted to disable the sync on the Mac app side. I have clicked in the wrong button and entire database disappeared (luckily there were just 2 weeks transactions) - I dont trust it anymore and am stopping using it for good...

Ive been a long time user, and have never had any issues with the App. It performs every function that I was looking for, and the more recent iOS addition, truly put it a cut above everyone else. A previous reviewer had some issues with it, and I can only assume he didnt go to the support website. Axel has always been great with support, and as a beta tester for the last couple revisions, I can say he takes the time to make sure everything works the way it should. I always know what my current balance is, and can tell you if Ill be able to afford something within minutes thanks to this app!

One of my favorite app. Ive been a user for more than 1 year, never have any issues or crashes. Great features (multiple currencies, budgets, schedules, smart folders), nice UI, great support. Dont forget to get the iPhone app too, its slick and sync with the Mac app.

Ive been using Squirrel since 2009 to manage my finances. It is a solid, straightforward, and clean app. The developer is responsive and open to feedback to improve the app. The iPhone app is great and the best way to enter expenses on the go. I look forward to a future iPad app to complete the set. The reports and budget featrues are great and highly customizable.

Great program for what it is and what it costs. Its not as full featured as iBank or most of the other well-known finance apps, but keep in mind that its not even 1.0 yet. The application is elegant & beautiful, simple, as of late has been rock solid, the developer is responsive and friendly, and the cost is great (including free upgrades up to version 2.0). Most of the cons to speak of are minor (such as no distinct entry point for check numbers, though you can put them in the notes for the transaction). The biggest con of the app is that development is slow, due to the developer being a student. That being said, the potential for this app is high, and when the developer begins putting more time into it, I expect big things. There is also a corresponding iPhone/iPod touch app that syncs fully with the desktop version. I absolutely love the app, and its a great way to enter transactions on the go, to be synced to the full version later, as well as to keep track of budgets.

Unimpressive

Full of bugs and poor interface.

Ive tried a lot of personal finance apps for Mac and iOS, and this is the only one Ive been satisfied with. Its a great, practical tool for keeping track of personal expenses and bank accounts, without additional rigamarole that I find gets in the way of simply understanding whats going on with your money.

I just installed it. Very frustrated. Very buggy. Doesnt stay open for long and actually doesnt let me import files: I tried OFX, QIF and QFX, provided by my bank. I was never able to finalize the import as the last step is blocked… Very much waiting for a fix, a response from the developer and/or my money back as the importer was the reason I choose this app. After each time I tried to import the files, the app unexpectedly closed. BUMMER, my goal was to budget my money better and so far I just lost 30 bucks

olivier berrou · 14 years ago

Dont waste your money. Once you enter a schedule to repeat every 14 days the app crashes and there isnt a way to restore the app. Squirrel Support was a joke and not helpful at all. I wished I wouldnt have wasted my money.

Shelwilson · 14 years ago

As a pre-AppStore version user Id like to thank the developer for giving free upgrades to registered users. This is a solid update, long overdue for Lion users (there were bugs) but worth the wait. The new interface is much cleaner. Ive been using Squirrel since late 2009 and Ive been happy with it. It does everything I need to manage 4 accounts. Scheduling for bills is quite handy. The budget tool seems to be improved and works great if you use tags and categories for transactions. The only real downside at this point is that syncing with the iOS app is NOT supported in this version. I look forward to the iCloud support (hopefully soon). If development and updates continue at a timely pace, its hard not to suggest Squirrel for easy money management.
